Locomotive / Ideolo – TOLERANCE
Information about the workshop:
Tolerance means patience, understanding and kindness for otherness. It means respect for other feelings, views, likes, beliefs, customs and behavior even if they are incomprehensible for us, alien, or even contrary to our convictions. Tolerance is respect for other people’s freedom, for their opinions, way of life and thinking. Acceptance of dissimilarity. .
TOLERANCE is the basis for good relations between people and countries. It is linked with HUMAN RIGHTS, to which each person in the world is entitled since his birth. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 10 December 1948. Among others, it defines the right to life, liberty and personal security, freedom of movement, choice of place of living, work, education, freedom of religion, freedom of speech and peaceful association.
The starting point for the workshop is the biography of Julian Tuwim, writer of a complex national identity, a Jew and a Pole who had to flee the Nazis to save his life, as well as the multinational and multicultural Poland of the interwar period.
How do TOLERANCE and ACCEPTANCE fare in Poland today?
The aim of the workshop is sparking an interest In the themes which are often considered too serious and too difficult for younger audience, such as the issues of national identity, nationalism or the problem of discrimination, touched upon in the book Lokomotywa / IDEOLO. The workshop is based on creating its continuation. Children will receive worksheets with train cars, like in the book, but empty. The participants’ task is filling them, creating designs for successive pages of the publication.
The workshops are conducted by Małgorzata Gurowska and Joanna Ruszczyk, the book authors
Workshops for children over 6 years of age.
